St Mary Magdalene Church

St Mary Magdalene Church

Our beautiful ancient Church stands high on a hill over looking the A249. It is some half a mile from the village of Stockbury itself. The parish extends on both sides of the A249 including the tiny hamlet of South Green. A Church was recorded here in the Domesday Book. In those days it would probably been associated with the historic settlement just below the present site of the Church. The yew tree beside the Church is probably over 1000 years old. Some of the carvings in the Chancel were probably designed and executed by the same masons who worked on Canterbury Cathedral. At the moment we are raising money as urgent repairs are needed on the tower and North Porch. English Heritage have been very generous with a grant towards the work, but we still have to find approximately £32k! We welcome visitors. In the summer months the Church is open on Saturdays and Sundays. At all other times there is a key available from the Post Office in MB farms in the village. In the winter months the services are fortnightly at 3pm on 2nd and 4th Sundays. In the summer there is a service every week at 6pm. As you enter you will find the peace descend on you as it has done for people throughout its long history.
